Im serious, this car you may have heard nothing about, which can’t be configured online, and doesn’t even have its ratings in yet seems to be arriving in dealerships alongside the all new 2017 Kia Cadenza. Must be a really quiet car.

It looks like a mean frog. But besides that, why isn’t Kia marketing this car at all? Can’t even be configured? Is it for the people coming to the Kia dealerships with no idea what they want to buy?

I agree with mkbruin. It must be a soft launch. I wonder what their overall launch strategy is?

At least the Cadenza is configurable.

Like what sized CUV is this compared to?

It’s in between a Kia Soul and a Kia Sportage. Honestly it’s more like a Focus Hatch or Forte5 with a higher seating position than any CUV.

I read about this online while I was helping my friend research an essay about replacing our Campus Police’s Tahoes with hybrid crossovers. If this car lives up to its price and MPG promise, it’ll be amazing.

I sat in a loaded Niro at an auto show recently and it seemed like a really nice car. Its interior is decent and it has so many features. Visibility and versatility are good too. Not sure about the drive though.

The Niro’s already been around for a few months in the UK. The reviews are already in and it seems to be alright.

Really good looking little CUV, hope it drives as good as it looks.

I love the size of this, the looks, and the fact that they went for a DCT instead of a CVT.

I do however wish that it had the 7 speed DCT which seems to be getting better reviews and more power.

It looks like a bit of a competitor to the C-Max but with more SUV styling.

Thing is, the DCT has a couple drawbacks - it can’t keep the engine on its most efficient point, and smoothness of switching modes is an issue (not as much of an issue as it is on some pancake hybrids (Nissan apparently has huge problems with this, as they have to drop the clutch to get the ICE running), as there’s a dedicated starter motor, but still). Upside is that the DCT can keep the main traction motor at its most efficient point, though, and it has more jerk events due to shifting, and therefore feels faster.

It’s rather telling, though, that the Ioniq (same powertrain in a liftback car optimized for fuel efficiency) has worse acceleration than the Gen 4 Prius, despite having more power and similar weight. And, the UK reviewers were getting worse mileage out of the Ioniq.

I find it odd that this doesn’t have an AWD option, seeing as it’s a crossover.

Similarly, I find it odd that the C-HR doesn’t have an AWD option in the US (or the hybrid option, for that matter, given that the RAV4 Hybrid is selling), or with the European/Japanese-market hybrids, especially given that the Prius has an AWD option on the same platform with the same hybrid powertrain, and the C-HR 1.2T in Europe has an AWD option.

All I can say is the ones in dealership are Kia Motors owned and not available for test drive. Actual units are still a bit out.

It’s Kia projected mpg ratings are amazing. definitely more like a small lift on a Forte 5 than anything. Saw one early today, looked nice.
